The health of the man is as crucial to the conception process as that of the woman. Just like in a woman, a man’s overall health influences his fertility level. 50% of infertility is linked to men. It is the responsibility of every woman planning to conceive to involve her partner in the health regime she follows. Of course the pre pregnancy diet for men will vary from women. However, following a diet plan and cleaning your body of the toxin is a great idea.


Following are the measures and pre pregnancy diet for men to have a healthy conception –


  • Pre pregnancy diet for men should include a lot of zinc, folates and vitamins like vitamin C  in the right proportion in your diet.These nutrients help the body to maintain the sperm production process and destroy any abnormal sperm. Lower levels of zinc in the body are related to the fertility level of the male. Include foods like almonds, walnuts, figs, raisins, dates, brown bread, broken wheat, and cornflakes in your diet to get enough zinc nourishment.
  • Low levels of folate (folic acid) in a man’s diet increase the number of genetically abnormal sperm produced in the testes. Hence, eat folate rich foods like green vegetables, sprouts, spinach, legumes, whole wheat grain, papaya etc. These should certainly be a part of a pre pregnancy diet for men.
  • Increase the intake of vitamin C in your diet. Have a tall glass of orange juice daily or simply have an orange. This increase of vitamin C is essential for smokers as smoke reduces the body’s ability to absorb.
  • Include almonds, walnuts, raisins and figs in your diet to improve your fertility. Also having a diet rich in proteins like soya, rajma, milk, eggs, fish and chicken helps in treating male infertility issue.
  • Enrich your diet with Vitamin D and Calcium supplements. Foods like soy, cheese, yogurt, tofu, fish, egg, spinach, coconut, okra (ladyfinger), almonds and walnuts provide good nourishment for Vitamin D and Calcium.
  • Your water intake needs to increase to about 12-15 glasses as day. This will prevent dehydration that can lower the sperm count. Water can also be substituted with buttermilk, lassi, milk, juices and coconut water.
  • Limit your consumption of alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and refined carbohydrates.
